Frequently Asked Questions
How long has Sun&Sole been around?
Catherine, Michelle and 10 adventuresome girls, ventured off on their very first program hike in April 2015.
Is Sun&Sole a 501(c)(3) organization?
Sun&Sole has filed as a 501(c)(3) and is patiently awaiting official non-profit status.
DO YOU HAVE THE CURRICULUM AVAILABLE FOR PARENTS TO VIEW?
Yes – we send an email out to parents prior to the hike with our theme/focus for the day. We also send parents thought-provoking questions which we intend to discuss with the girls during the hike and get the parents' thoughts. The curriculum is created so that we get the children’s thoughts, yet not instill our ideas/opinions on them.
WHAT IS THE COST OF THE HIKE AND WHAT IS IT SPENT ON?
Hikes are donation based, so that all girls are welcome. Donations help us provide snacks, water, sunscreen, arts supplies, journals and eventually lunches for each child. Your donations also help offset our overhead/admin costs (webpage, email, marketing, etc).
Have volunteers/supervisors been fingerprinted and had background checks?
Yes, Catherine and Michelle have gone through a complete background check. Most Sun&Sole volunteers work in the field of primary education and have a strong background in youth development and have also completed background checks.
Are all adults trained in CPR and First Aid and if so is it current?
Yes, Catherine and Michelle are CPR and First Aid certified and their certification is current.
What is your protocol if a girl gets hurt on the trails?
We have a First Aid kit available at all times and stay on highly populated trails. We also discuss protocols with parents prior to each Sun&Sole outing.
What is the ratio for adult to child?
1 adult for every 4 children.
Did you get a release of photo from the parents to post pictures on your website?
Yes. We send a photo release and liability release form to parents, prior to each hike. Each family must return signed copies to us in order for their child to participate in that day's activities. We also inform parents of our agenda for the day, items that will be discussed and things to be aware of pre and post hike.
