Who We Are
Sun&Sole founders, Catherine Herzog (right) and Michelle Murakami (left), have a long history of working with young people in various capacities. They are passionate about exploring the outdoors, staying active, and creating a spark in younger generations. They created Sun&Sole as a way to help girls discover their innate capabilities, and break down gender roles and stereotypes.
Catherine is CEO and Co-Founder of Sun&Sole. She is a champion of all girls everywhere and a firm believer that the sky is not the limit; it's just the beginning! Catherine manages everything behind the scenes for Sun&Sole, including: operations, branding, strategy, expansion efforts, training, hiring and relationship and community building.
Catherine began her career managing and supporting notable talent, brands and nonprofits in the US and AsiaPacific. In her free time, she was deeply involved with local youth nonprofits, including: Peace4Kids, School On Wheels, CASA, Playworks, Help One Child, and E3 Youth Philanthropy. Upon relocating to the Bay Area, she formed Sun&Sole.
Catherine hopes to inspire and empower young girls through Sun&Sole, and remind them of their value, worth, and strength. #GirlPower
As Co-Founder, artist, educator, and innovator, Michelle dove head first into the program development side of Sun&Sole. She draws from personal experiences, as well as the ideas of girls, parents, and teachers she works with, to learn what issues are impacting adolescent girls today.
Due to Michelle's past work as a curriculum writer with Galileo and Aspicio, she thrives in creating deep-impact lessons in a relaxed environment. Michelle recently transitioned from her role as a "Play Consultant" with Playworks, to the Galileo Learning Office where she trains Camp Directors and inspires new innovators. No matter where Michelle goes, she is determined to help others realize that they have the power to make a difference in the world. #GetItGirl
